Adventures in Advaita Vedanta, the philosophy and science of spirit. We are one you and I; are you curious why?..

Here is a place to linger, to let your intellect roam. Aatmaavrajanam is being written as a progressive study and, as such, can be read like a book. Anyone arriving at any time can simply start at the very first post and work their way through at their own pace. Jaya Ganesha!

Hari OM

Story-day is for cultural exploration, puraanas and parables and finding out about leading lights in spiritual philosophy.

On the Thursday past (17th), the great Ganapati Mahotsav took place. Celebration of the elephant-faced Lord; in whose devotion we find strength to face and overcome obstacles, to rein-in our ego, to learn the joy of sharing. The eye indicates His intelligence; the trunk, His flexibility and sensitivity; the ears, His eagerness and ability to listen. How is it that the Lord had this head, however? How come His vahana (vehicle) was a rat? In what manner is intelligence proved when Ganesha is to marry?

For some fun, here is an animation of these stories of Ganesha. Yes, it is for children - elephants are all about family! - but are we not all children in the eyes of the Lord? Let your inner child smile with joy under the blessings of the Lord! (The follow-on clip reverts to Hindi, but English subtitles are there.)
