Each 'Choose-day' we will investigate the process by which we can reassess our activity and interaction with the world of plurality and become more congruent within our personality.

PEACE IN A RESTLESS WORLD cont'd. (Guru-ji)

We have seen that there is the physical (phenomenal), the societal and the individual aspect to everything; the world itself, the individual and the communities of the grouping of individuals which creates society.  Also, that there is a restlessness within the individual, which manifests its effects upon the society and the world around him or her. It was established that peace is required at all levels. Let us see more.

Peace in the Phenomenal World.

The question is what can we do to bring peace to the phenomenal world, which is governed by the forces of nature? The Vedic mantras have the power to invoke peace from all the directions within the forces of nature, but we should remember that, to a large extent, we are responsible for the destructive effects occurring in nature. By cutting down trees and destroying forests we bring about great ecological imbalance. Every day we hear of global warming. We destroy nature with so much exploitation and pollution; all in the name of industrialisation, warfare, defence and progress.

Scriptures teach us that if we are compelled to cut down one tree for any reason, we must plant ten trees elsewhere. without planting new trees, we have no right to destroy forests. These days we have 'concrete forests' everywhere and the weather is changing rapidly.

Scriptures say that one should worship the earth, the oceans, the wind and the trees; but the ignorant consider it as superstitious worship. ... Yet things are changing. Earth Day is celebrated! The ancient wisdom is coming to life in a different way. The Vedic concept of worship got distorted. Then it meant the ritualistic offerings through homa; but the greatest worship of nature is not to damage it. To cut pollution, take responsibility for our waste; if we want nature to cooperate with us, to bless us, then it is necessary to learn to live in harmony with it. Our attitude that we can conquer nature is full of arrogance and dooms us to disaster. By bringing about a caring attitude toward nature, peace is possible in the phenomenal world.
