'Freedays' are the 'gather our thoughts' days; Q&As; a general review of the week so far…

August 3rd was Gurudev's Aaraadhana Mahaasamaadhi day - the day of remembrance of his departure from the body. The Chinmaya Mission family, as one, offer up prayers to the Guru and gives thanks for the difference he has made to their lives. In the West, this can seem like an idolisation, but is it not true that great leaders and teachers are here also celebrated? Not in the same pure manner, perhaps, but nevertheless, a person of such value is appreciated. A key difference, though, is that in the West there is a tendency to let the departed fade and there is a constant seeking of the next 'celebrity'.

This day is not about celebrity. It holds more of the same feel which is given to, say, Christ at Easter, or perhaps even more fittingly, to that of the transfiguration. The energy and teaching take on a life of their own and hold true through all generations. This is the marvel of such role models, such spiritual  paragons.

With prostrations to the Guru who transcends the bounds of the physical world, who reaches all who are still and listen, who Loves unconditionally, who takes nothing for himself. Gratitude is not enough.
