ADVENTURES IN ADVAITA VEDANTA...

Adventures in Advaita Vedanta, the philosophy and science of spirit. We are one you and I; are you curious why?..

Beware What is Wished

Hari OM
Story-day is for cultural exploration, puraanas and parables and finding out about leading lights in spiritual philosophy.

The Kites and the Swans

TEE KITES of olden times, as well as the Swans, had the privilege
of song.  But having heard the neigh of the horse, they were so
enchanted with the sound, that they tried to imitate it; and, in
trying to neigh, they forgot how to sing.

The desire for imaginary benefits often involves the loss of present blessings.

Who Knows?

Hari Om
'Freedays' are the 'gather our thoughts' days; Q&As; a general review of the week so far…

As mentioned, Yamini-amma is away in India this month. A return to base, as it were. No matter how much one learns on a subject, it is always good to revisit and have the basics reaffirmed. This is the nature of saadhana. So if you have glanced and thought that the re-reading advised here in the aachaarya's absence is not time you wish to invest, it may interest you to know that the morning sessions in Saraswati Niilyam with Swami Swaroopananda-ji will be on …….. Narada Bhakti Sutra.

This will be the sixth full teaching of the text which amma will have attended, on top of all her own study of the text. This is what one does in order to get to the kernel of knowledge which will make the transformation in life which one desires.

Different speakers also bring out different aspects; and the same teacher with each telling, will find another nuance. The listener also will hear differently, according to their state of being on each occasion.

Never reject a chance to review or relisten. Who knows when the 'click' will happen?!

Looking Back

Hari OM
'Text-days' are for delving into the words and theory of Advaita Vedanta.

This month is about snippets of inspiration and reviewing. You will not be surprised to find, then, that saadhana is being suggested.

Using the label on the sidebar for Aatmaabodha, page back to the beginning. For this week, read  the posts from shloka One to Twelve. Do not go beyond. Take notes and note down any questions or doubts… or note if queries you had at first reading have since been cleared.

Re-read

Hari OM
Application - that is what 'Workings-days' are about!

Teacher's away…. No time to play! &*>  Today, do take time to review sections One and Two of Narada Bhakti Sutra. Check out your understanding. Note if reading them after these several weeks is now easier, if different things come out as your understanding and awareness has grown. This is valuable exercise in study.

A Matter of Choice

Hari Om
Each 'Choose-day' we will investigate the process by which we can reassess our activity and interaction with the world of plurality and become more congruent within our personality.

A bible reference now, with regard to choice… your saadhana is to meditate upon it, and see if you can track it down.

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few."

[Okay, it's in St Matthew… &*>]

Sufi Sound

Hari Om
Monday is AUM-day; in search of meditation

The Sufi movement is to Islam what Vedanta is to Hinduism. Much of their philosophy coincides in understanding of the Divine. Sufism is a highly intellectual practice, as in jnaana - but in the group ceremonies, there are resemblances to bhakti-marg, with the chanting and physical rhythms set up. This short clip gives a brief and delightful insight.

Shanti Shanti Shanti

Hari OM

Sounds-day is for listening/viewing a variety of devotional items from and for all ages and traditions.

May the year begin with peace. May it move with peace. May it complete in peace.
