This one keeps coming up! It is our greatest hurdle. Even humility has an ego. This is another part of the antaH-karana. It is the part which "I"dentifies as the individual unit. Importantly, it is not the spirit-self. It is, however, the connection between That and this, the physical life. Regrettably, it tends to run away with itself, get ideas above its station. Just because it can perceive its mind and intellect components, it takes a sense of ownership. A significant portion of saadhana is about wrestling the ego, bringing it down where it belongs.
Much of the time we are unaware of the play of our ego. To a large extent, it is the ego which writes our 'stories'. It is in addressing the ego that we can begin to write new tales for ourselves. Start to withdraw and become your own best observer. Be prepared to be surprised. Shocked, even.
