Taking up point #4, This body is a means to live a righteous life. Whether we like it or not, we are stuck in this physical manifestation of a thing called 'life' and that life is transacted via the means of a body. Having these bodies has resulted in each aspect of Consciousness becoming attached to that physical item and believing itself to be an individual.
For as long as we must live this way, then the best we can do is make choices in relation to the body which at least keeps it physically healthy. However, we must beware becoming too enamoured even of this.
At all times, if we have spiritual awareness, we must also be aware that the body is but a vehicle for that very spirit. Yes, we must maintain it, but we must also use it for the betterment of the spirit which its passenger. We can make the body an instrument of saadhana through correct eating, sleeping, action - and inaction. Learning about these things is part and parcel of the spiritual process and the body is our means to that learning.
Our choice is to turn right or left according to the learning. Nothing is set in stone. Knowing something is one thing, acting upon it another. This is where choice comes in - free will. Do we choose to live according to Dharma, or not? It is as simple - and as precious and as difficult - as that.
