'Freedays' are the 'gather our thoughts' days; Q&As; a general review of the week so far…

On Choose-day, the final point of 'ponderment' was that we 'need nobody'. Exploration of this was done. However, in terms of spiritual pursuit, we are often told to follow a Guru. Most scriptures say that we cannot learn them fully without appropriate guidance and this is the role of the Guru, the pundit, the priest.

Given the statement seen as point #6, it might be asked, do we really need a Guru?

The short answer is 'no'. We have no need to cling to any person or image. That person cannot physically rescue us, despite all the fine words about such.

However… is it not the case that on a journey unfamiliar to us (or even one we think we know), the presence of a map is useful? Even more useful are specific directions so that we can mark the route more clearly. Who can provide those specific directions? Why the one who has travelled the route and knows it well! For this reason, if for no other, the Guru is important. Navigating the scriptures holds many pitfalls. Having a guide can make all the difference.

What is more, that guide can set the example, help us to put things into practice… and they can be our support and comfort when we fall in our path. They can help us to rise again.
